Testimonial from Mel Sweetnam Canada.
I am very pleased to have been able to support the work of the Kadike Trust to create more ecologically mindful, naturally dyed woven items. Mamatha Rai was the most conscientious, hard-working student, who took full advantage of the scholarship through my studio, Mamie’s Schoolhouse, to learn a very large range of ecologically sustainable fibre preparation and natural dyeing methods. I know she will continue to use what she has learned to train others and to help improve the socio-economic prospects of the local dyers and weavers with whom she works. India has an amazing textiles history, including mastery of many beautiful natural dye techniques, and I hope that the naturally dyed textiles supported by the Kadike Trust, and its partner the Talipady Weavers Society, will take their place amongst India’s famous natural dye textile traditions.
With great admiration and wishes for ongoing success,
Mel Sweetnam
